For more than a century, Wilmingtonians have enjoyed the accessible, pastoral beauty of urban parks, thanks to resourceful city planners, talented landscape architects, and philanthropic residents of Wilmington, Delaware.

Today, the Friends of Wilmington Parks works closely with the Delaware Division of Parks & Recreation and the City of Wilmington in a cooperative spirit to assess and render the needs of the parks, including horticultural and restorative projects.   The Friends' next significant architectural project is the reconstruction of the "Sugar Bowl" pavilion in Brandywine Park.   Read the May 16, 2006 press release announcing this project to the public.

In December 2005 the Friends published “Within the Reach of All – An Illustrated History of Brandywine Park”, written by park historian Susan Mulchahey Chase.   Read Harry Themal's glowing review from the December 19, 2005 News Journal.

The Friends' park renovation projects are funded through grants and tax-deductible donations.   After reading more about the parks, their history, and Friends' events, we hope you will decide to become a part of the renaissance.   For more information, refer to our 2007-2008 Annual Report.
